There is a WinSock program called WSHOST that allows you to submit IP
address either way and get the opposite result.
i.e. submit the name and get the number
or
submit the number and get the name
It is currently in the /pub/mirror/cica/win3/pc/win3/uploads directory
of polecat.law.indiana.edu and probably in the ../win3/uploads directory
of several other CICA mirrors.

On our unix boxes (SunOS) we have a program called nslookup which
works like this:
~ : 3 > nslookup calvin.usc.edu
Server: PHOTON.cs.tamu.edu
Address: 128.194.134.1
Name: calvin.usc.edu
Address: 128.125.253.129
If you have access via telnet to a unix box, i'd try this....

At the moment, the best you can do is to click on the program manager minimize
button. If started via an auto-load, the winsock will come up minimized.
We'll correct that in the next release.

I was having fits, too, until I discovered that, somewhere between installing windows and
installing Win Mosaic, something had trashed my swap space: I wound up with a large
temporary swap on c: that was larger than the available disk space. I found this by
accident when I thought it might be the 32 bit disk access and went and checked.
It mostly works for me now except: clicking on turning world to abort download usually
requires a cold reboot recovery, finicky printing with frequent pages and pages of blank
sheets (that keep coming eve after a print abort), and some html documents that worked fine
in 2a2 (and still do in XMosaic, I'm told) now exhibit as one horrible line (like it gets
carriage returns but no line feeds).
If your other winsock software is all stable, then you might want to try the new win32s
(1.5, I think) that just became available. Perhaps it's the 32-bit part giving you fits (assuming,
of course, that you are running win 3.1 or 3.11).
Good luck.

Yes...I was stupid. I forgot about the WM_USER id's. Though I
don't think the winsock spec mentioned this.
Thanks to all those who replied.

You might want to give Quarterdeck a call and ask them about Desqview/X.
It is not free, but I think that it is currently on sale. These are the same people who
make QEMM. When you ask, be sure to be VERY explicit about your net setup
and ask specific question about whether the base product supports your net config
or if you need an extra add-on for your particular situation. We have not tried the 2.0
release that just came out, but the older version works very well for some people here
at work. Personally, I have too many drives on my PC (with way too many drivers)
to pay the memory overhead that ver.1.1 required.
Please let me know if you find a good solution.

Subject: Trumpet Winsock - prg-files in shared dir. INI-file in personal dir
Is it possible to have the Trumpet Winsock program-files in a different directory than the
TRUMPWSK.INI-file?
I would like to read the program files from a shared directory (on a server),
but the user dependent .INI-file should remain on a personal directory.
A lot of you know why I'm asking this: This applies cause the Winsock program is released
in new versions quite often, a complete update in an organisation would spend a lot of
time and $$$ if the program resides on each individual's computer.
I've tried to put the program files on D:\somethng and .INI on C:\WINDOWS, but this causes
the TCP Manager to ask for the IP-address and such, the .INI-file is not read.
Oneone with a clue, please reply by e-mail. If something turn out, I'll post an summary.
